Yesterday 01/01/11 began the new year with a celebratory dinner with my family. Twelve of us sat down to dinner and as is usual in the Ryan household the banter started as soon as the food arrived. I love family dinner times in our house. The usual quirky sense of humor of my family is to the fore at mealtimes. Memories of past mealtimes when someone said something funny can be enough for another round of unrelenting teasing of one particular sibling. I believe the 'seal' incident from my son's childhood was mentioned again and he related a story of his recent adventures in Australia where he believed he saw a 'shark', but he was the only one to see it. Howls of laughter from his sisters from around the table. This year we were joined for dinner by my daughter and her husband who were celebrating their first Christmas as husband and wife. They will celebrate their first wedding anniversary in May but more about that later. We were also joined by my other daughter's boyfriend from Belgium. I wonder what he thought of this mad Irish family with all the banter around the table. He joined us for his first Irish New Year's Eve celebrations. It was very different to what he experienced before. My third daughter's boyfriend was also with us. Thanks to him we had a beautiful lemon cheesecake for afters. My mother requested the recipe from him at the end of the meal. He also makes a mean rum and raisin cheesecake. We are very spoiled really. Fourth daughter and child no five was missing this year, she was partying with friends instead but we did miss her at our table.
This is my first post to my blog and it is my intention to do one every day for the year, so will have to do two tomorrow to catch up.
Wishing all many blessings for 2011.
